Well Man

Leading men’s health charity Movember believe that ‘The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier’.

It is crucial that we learn how to talk more about Men’s health, in order to reduce stigma, feel more comfortable doing so, and gain access to support needed earlier.

Overview

Suitable for all staff

This workshop, delivered by a medical doctor, looks at the particular challenges and risks that men face from a physical and mental perspective throughout their lives, and how this (and other things) can impact on our health.

The workshop explores some of the common health challenges which men face including prostate & testicular health and cancer, cardiovascular health (including blood pressure and cholesterol) and mental health. The workshop provides an understanding of the risk factors including family history, environmental factors, smoking and alcohol consumption; the symptoms; and also crucially actions that can be taken to reduce risk and prevent these illnesses.

The workshop also looks at ‘male menopause’ debunking some of the misconceptions and exploring the role of testosterone.

The workshop equips participants with the know-how to perform self examinations, and empower them with the confidence that should they notice anything ‘odd’ to see a Doctor.

Participants will also leave the workshop equipped with the knowledge of the actions they can take to reduce their risk.
