Mental Health First Aid Training
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses offer internationally recognised training to help raise awareness and build knowledge and skills surrounding mental health issues and management.
MHFA is especially useful if you are looking to increase the literacy and understanding of mental health issues of your employees.
This full adult course teaches how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis to a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue. It is nationally certified by Mental Health First Aid England.
Overview
Suitable for all staff
The course provides:
Better understanding of common mental health conditions and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing, including your own.
Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress - maintaining boundaries and confidentiality.
Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening and how to recognise and tackle stigma or discrimination.
Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support.
The sessions are interactive with practical examples and activities - video and role play practice of approach and language.
MHFA’s are not counsellors or mental health professionals but are able to listen and support with signposting which needs careful boundaries and confidentiality.
Everyone who completes the course gets:
A manual to refer to whenever you need it
A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
A certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider
Access to three years of MHFAider support and benefits and evidence-based resources which includes 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App®.
Formats:
The Mental Health First Aid course can be delivered either virtually, or in-person.
The virtual course consists of 4 x 3.5 hour online sessions.
The face to face course must be delivered over 2 consecutive days.
The course is taught in small groups (a maximum of 16) so that attendees feel safe and supported while they learn.
Commitment from participants is vital and managers/leaders need to take this commitment seriously to embed the learning and role into an organisation. Participants must attend all scheduled sessions to become Mental Health First Aiders.
