Neurodiversity Awareness for Teams

Neurodiversity has huge implications (and benefits) for wellbeing, performance and the ways we work together in teams. We can all hold unconscious biases which may impact our beliefs and attitudes towards our colleagues, leading to challenges. By understanding more about neurodiversity we can become more inclusive in our ways of working, and experience more effective communication and collaboration.

Overview

Suitable for Teams

In this workshop we explain what neurodiversity is, looking at some of the key facts and figures in relation to prevalence and workplace impact. We explore the social model of disability which says that people are disabled by barriers in society, not by their impairment or difference.

We take a close look at the benefits of being neurodiversity-aware at work, helping to reframe common assumptions and misunderstandings.

We explain the common challenges faced at work and the characteristics you may notice, including sensory issues, communication differences and executive function. We move on to highlight more inclusive ways of working, bringing awareness to neurodivergent strengths and learning styles and how to communicate and collaborate well in relation to neurodiversity.

Finally we look at diagnosis, self-diagnosis and disclosure - what it’s like, what to be aware of, and pointers if you’re in the process yourself.
