Non-Sleep Deep Rest

Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) is a powerful, science-backed practice that guides the brain and body into a deeply restorative state, without requiring sleep. Developed and popularised by Stanford neuroscientist Dr Andrew Huberman, NSDR has been shown to enhance relaxation, boost neuroplasticity, and improve both mental and physical resilience. Unlike traditional meditation, NSDR induces brain states similar to slow-wave sleep, leading to profound restoration and cognitive benefits.

In today’s fast-paced, high-stress world, many people struggle with chronic stress, anxiety, and poor sleep, which can contribute to burnout, reduced cognitive performance, and diminished overall wellbeing. The inability to deeply relax or regulate emotions effectively can impact productivity, workplace relationships, and long-term health.

Overview

In this workshop we provide direct experience of NSDR. The session starts by introducing the practice and some of its many benefits including improved quality of sleep, greater ability to to relax at will, improved focus and memory, reduced anxiety and stress.

NSDR is based on clinical evidence that outlines the practice helps brain function. It does this by training individuals to intentionally navigate different brain frequencies that are associated with mental focus (beta), creativity (theta), deep rest (delta).

Participants will then be guided through a 20-minute NSDR practice. No prior experience is required, and the session is accessible to all, regardless of age, fitness level, or pre-existing health conditions. The workshop can be conducted virtually or in person - all that’s needed is a quiet, comfortable space for participants to lie down and fully immerse in the experience.

Following the session, a guided audio recording will be provided so participants can continue practising NSDR in their own time.

Outcomes

  • Understand the neuroscience behind NSDR and its benefits

  • Learn how to enter a state of deep relaxation at will

  • Experience first-hand the restorative effects of NSDR

  • Gain a practical tool for reducing stress, improving focus, and enhancing well-being
