Mental ill health is the leading cause of sickness absence and it also plays a significant role in presenteeism and staff turnover. Creating workplace cultures that understand and prioritise mental health both at an individual and strategic level is vital if we are to find a way to turn the tide on this sensitive and sometimes difficult issue.

This session offers a compassionate and comprehensive overview of mental health. Explaining what it is, the factors underpinning it, the differences between everyday experiences. and mental health conditions and exploring why it is that some people struggle with their mental health more than others.

It offers the latest statistics to illustrate why mental health is such a priority and explore some of the myths and misunderstandings that can get in the way and lead to stigma and prejudice.

It identifies some of the workplace factors that are known to contribute to poor mental health and covers a range of ideas and evidence-based strategies for how we can manage the inevitable pressure of working life more comfortably so we can maintain our wellbeing.

Crucially, the session offers ideas and guidance so participants know how to approach the topic of wellbeing with their colleagues and feel confident to have effective and supportive mental health conversations.
