The Power of Community
Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us, we are not alone.
Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 celebrates the power and importance of community.
Overview
In this workshop we explore what community is, and what makes for a life-giving community?
We take a look at why it matters, covering the many benefits of feeling part of a community which includes protection from loneliness, safety and support in hard times.
Being part of a community and something larger than ourselves gives us a sense purpose, meaning, identity and belonging, which is crucial for mental wellbeing.
Belonging to communities also has an important role in empowering and inspiring people via the sharing of ideas and helps us create social change.
The workshop also looks at the all important question of how to connect and cultivate a greater sense of connection for ourselves. This could be plugging into an existing community, and we explore where to find your people in a modern landscape.
We also look at the power of community in the workplace and ask you to reflect on what that may look like for you in your teams and organisation.
Finally we take a look at how to start a community on your own, what are the necessary ingredients?
This session is delivered by Work Well Being Associate Suzy Reading who as well as being a Psychologist, Coach and Published Author, has successfully built a thriving nearly 60k Instagram community. Suzy shares how she has achieved this through the power of human connection.
