Living and Working Well with Long-Term Health Conditions

Over 13 million working age adults in the UK live with long term health conditions. Chances are you or someone you work with lives with just such a long-term condition.

Managing the ailment, adapting to changes and balancing health needs with work demands is an ongoing challenge for many people. With all these pressures it is easy to see why some people struggle with work and find it hard to reach their full potential, at times feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.

Overview

Suitable for all staff

In this workshop, delivered by a leading Clinical Health Psychologist with a special interest in supporting people with long term health conditions, we will take you through a range of proven, evidence-based psychological techniques that can help sustain anyone living with a long-term condition.

Each health condition usually has its own medical treatments that can help reduce or manage symptoms but living with a life-long condition is as much a psychological challenge as it is a medical one. Learning how to cope and thrive despite the demands of a health condition requires a set of skills that anyone can learn but few are actually taught.

Attendees will learn habits and behaviours to help make the most of precious time and energy, alongside the mindset and psychological skills to manage the difficult thoughts and feelings that come with the hard times.

The facilitator has worked for 12 years within the NHS supporting people with serious health conditions ranging from persistent pain to cardiac conditions, diabetes, neurological conditions, cancer and other life-limiting health problems. This experience is coupled with extensive research they have carried out in the role of psychological processes in health and wellbeing and training the next generation of Clinical Psychologists.
