Science of Sleep

A good night’s sleep is one of the basic pillars of our physical, mental and emotional health. Mood, thinking, performance, communication and resistance to infection are some of the areas affected by restless, broken or lack of sleep. But good sleep can, for many reasons, be elusive.

Overview

Suitable for all staff

In this workshop we explore the purpose of sleep, what happens when sleep is disrupted and the underlying science of sleep as a natural function of the body, a function we can trust.

By understanding how sleep works we can start to release some of the pressures we put on ourselves around sleep, pressures which can paradoxically make matters worse. Whilst 'sleep hygiene’ principles help, in this workshop we will add another approach. We'll look at the whole 24 hour cycle and the ways in which we manage our energy during the day, which impacts how well we sleep.

Learning the science and shifting the focus helps us regain connection with and regain our trust in sleep, seeing it not as another source of anxiety but as something that happens naturally.

Participants will leave informed and in charge of the tools and strategies to unwind the challenge of poor sleep.
